Historical Memories
I have always been enchanted with paintings produced by pre-historic man; especially so with those depicting scenes from everyday life. I think my photography springs from this enchantment. We photographers are modern day image makers. We create instant and historical memories in fractions of a second. And who knows, in the future, an image from our time might tell of the way we lived. I started shooting photographs in the 70s, when Brazil was a dictatorship and there was everything to change. With much curiosity, I followed what was happening, capturing episodes in which I was both observer and participant. Today, my archive of the 20th century is, basically, the memory of these stories.
